On 26 June, 2004 amendments were made to the Law on Public Service creating the Public Service Council within the office of the President (article 128, p.2). The task of the Council is to draft a cohesive state policy on public service and coordinate activities in this area.
The Council consists of a chairman and 12 members drawn equally from the judicial, legislative, executive and local branches of government. The President appoints the members of the council, from whom he also selects a chairman. The president currently chairs the Council and Kartlos Kipiani has been appointed as a secretary.
