Mikheil Saakashvili was born on December 21, 1967 in Georgia, Tbilisi.

Education

Mikheil Saakashvili graduated from the Institute of International relations of Kiev with honors and then enrolled at Columbia University in New York via the Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program. In 1995 he received a Master’s degree in law. In the same year he received an honorary diploma in Comparative Law of Human Rights from the International Institute of Human Rights in Strasburg. In 1995-1996 he studied at The George Washington University National Center of Law. 

 

Career Path

In 1995, Mikheil Saakashvili was elected as a Member of Parliament of Georgia.
On 12 October, 2000, became appointed Ministry of Justice of Georgia. His name is associated with reforms in this area.
On October, 2001, Saakashvili founded United National Movement (UNM).
In 2002, he was elected as the Chairman of the Tbilisi Assembly following an agreement among the political forces who won municipal elections.
In 2003, Mikheil Saakashvili, Zurab Jvania and Nino Burjanadze called together the society to protest the rigged elections. This ended with Rose Revolution and resignation of President Eduard Shevardnadze in 2003.
On 4 January, 2004, Mikheil Saakashvili was elected as a President of Georgia with 96 % of electoral votes.
On 5 January, 2008, Mikheil Saakashvili was reelected as a President of Georgia with 53, 4 % of electoral votes and he was performing the duties until the October of 2013.
After the end of the presidential term, Saakashvili accepted the position of lecturer and senior statesman at Tufts University in US.
In 2014, he founded new International Institute of Leadership in New York.
In winter, 2014, Saakashvili was actively involved in the events of Ukraine’s Euromaidan.
On 13 February, 2015, was appointed as the Head of the International Reforms Advisory Board.
On 30 May, 2015, was appointed as the Governor of Odessa Oblast region and he still holds the position.
Has wife – Sandra Roelofs and two suns – Eduard Saakashvili and Nikoloz Saakashvili.
