President Margvelashvili Holds a Meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran

The President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili has held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Mohammad Javad Zarif.
President Margvelashvili has provided information to Mr. Zarif about the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia and expressed concern about the visit of the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Russian Federation to the occupied Abkhazia and opening of the so-called embassy.
Mr. Zarif has once again affirmed his firm support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while on his part President Margvelashvili thanked the guest for his support.
The parties have discussed the prospects of strengthening economic relations between the two counties. They have also once again underscored the importance of Georgia's geopolitical role in the development of these relations. The conversation has also touched upon the regional cooperation in Georgia-Iran-Azerbaijan context and further activation of Georgia’s transit function.
Mr. Zarif has handed over the invitation of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran to President Margvelashvili.
"We see this region as a space for cooperation and any type of trade-economic relation will obviously contribute to its stability. We have to further activate our cooperation in this direction, both in bilateral and multilateral formats", - stated the Secretary of the National Security Council, Mr. Davit Rakviashvili.
The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Administration of the President of Georgia Mr. Giorgi Abashishvili, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Mr. Mikheil Janelidze, the Political Secretary of the President of Georgia Ms. Pikria Chikhradze, members of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, and representatives of the Iranian Economic Bloc.
