President Zourabichvili: We Have Great Potential to Be Strong and Developed Countries and to Return the Caucasus Its Historical Role

President Armen Sarkissian hosted an official dinner in Yerevan in honor of President Salome Zourabichvili.

At the dinner, President Zourabichvili and President Sarkissian made toasts for Georgia-Armenia friendship, stressing that Georgian and Armenian peoples have a shared value of respecting hospitality and friendship.

“It is noteworthy that history of our relations, first of all, was preserved in mythology, in the story of Kartlos and Hayk the Great.

We adopted Christianity in almost the same period of time.

We both declared independence in 1918; we lost and restored independence practically at the same time.
Georgians and Armenians share those values that historically laid foundation to the Caucasus.

Culture is a field in which our closeness is especially visible. Georgians and Armenians are proud of Sayat-Nova, Aram Khachaturian, Parajanov, Charles Aznavour, Givi Shahnazar, and other great people.

I would like to inform you that Georgia celebrates 150th anniversary of Armenian poet and public figure Hovhannes Tumanyan and Armenian composer Komitas this year. Considering the importance of Tumanyan’s works, we will celebrate a great jubilee in the autumn.

I believe that aside further deepening cultural relations, we also need to broaden the spectrum of our cooperation.

We have great potential to be strong and developed countries and to return the Caucasus its historical role.
Support for one other will bring great success on this path,” President Zourabichvili said.

According to President Sarkissian, genetic memory of friendship exists between Armenian and Georgian peoples and today this friendship is not a legend or a myth, but a reality that is translated into regional partnership.
