The President of Georgia Attends the Religious Service Concerning Restoration of Georgia’s Orthodox Church Autocephaly

President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili, together with members of the Georgian government, attended the service conducted by Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II in remembrance of the restoration of the Georgian Orthodox Church’s autocephaly.
The President of Georgia congratulated the Georgian people on the restoration of the autocephaly of Georgia’s Orthodox Church, noting that the restoration preceded Georgia’s Declaration of Independence and that without such an important decision, we may have never earned our national independence.
“Our country was always as influential as its church. Our state was powerful when the Church was powerful. Therefore, this is a very historic day and I would like to congratulate all of you,” said the President of Georgia.
The Orthodox Church of Georgia regained its autocephaly on 25 March 1917.
