President Margvelashvili Calls on the International Community to Firmly Condemn the So-Called Privileged Interests Policy of the Russian Federation

The President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili expresses deep concern over the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation to the occupied Abkhazia and opening of the so-called Embassy and calls on the international community to firmly condemn the so-called privileged interests policy of the Russian Federation.
“Visit of any foreign country’s representative to Georgia and proper functioning of its permanent representation in the territory of Georgia is permissible only after obtaining prior consent from the Georgian Government. Otherwise, such actions are gross violation of Georgian legislation and the international law.
Attempts of the Russian Federation to legitimize its military presence in the occupied territories of Georgia by implying alleged international relations, opposes the Agreement of August 12, 2008 and the fundamental principles of international law.
It is extremely disturbing that the Russian Federation responds to Georgian Government’s strategic patience policy and constructive steps taken toward stabilization by actions directed against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. This further escalates the existing situation.
We call on the international community to firmly condemn the so-called privileged interests policy of the Russian Federation and another attempt to infringe upon Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Georgian party once again expresses readiness to discuss all issues diplomatically and calls on the Russian party to hold a constructive dialogue”, - is stated in the statement of the President.
