President of Georgia Signs the Amendments to the Law of Georgia on the Prosecutor’s Office

The Position of the President regarding signature of the amendments made to the Law of Georgia on the Prosecutor’s Office was introduced to journalists at the briefing today by the President’s Parliamentary Secretary Giorgi Kverenchkhelidze.
According to Giorgi Kverenchkhelidze, the President of Georgia will sign the amendments made to the Law of Georgia on the Prosecutor’s Office but expresses his hope that in the nearest future actual reforms of the Prosecutor’s Office will begin.
“It was stated a number of times by the President of Georgia regarding the necessity of complete reforming of law enforcement bodies, including the Prosecutor’s Office, also regarding the importance of the Prosecutor’s office based on standards that are free from political influences, impartial and highly professional.
There is no doubt that there is a complete consensus in the public regarding the necessity of actual and deep reforms in the Prosecution system.
The President of Georgia thinks that the amendment made to the Law of Georgia on the Prosecutor’s Office which is submitted for signature, essentially sets new regulations of appointment and dismissal of only the Chief Prosecutor.
Regarding reformation of the Prosecutor’s Office, the President of Georgia considers that the Prosecutor’s status and place in the system of state authorities shall be defined; the conditions of the Prosecutor’s institutional and political independence and impartiality, also accountability towards the public shall be fully provided.
The President of Georgia signs the amendment presented in the Law of Georgia on the Prosecutor’s Office which essentially considers introduction of new regulations of appointment and dismiisal of the Chief Prosecutor and expects that in the nearest future actual reform of the prosecution system will be started and implemented”, - Giorgi Kverenchkhiladze stated.
