President Margvelashvili Assesses Negotiations in the EU and NATO

The President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili has assessed meetings held as part of his working visit to Brussels.
According to President Margvelashvili, as a result of negotiations, the parties have agreed to take specific measures in Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration process. These measures involve transition to a new stage of bilateral and sectoral cooperation with the European Union. At the meeting with the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, the future of NATO-Georgia relations has been discussed.
"We have achieved a new format of sectoral cooperation with the EU, which is an advancement of the Georgia-EU dialogue. I have briefed our colleagues on the cases of violation of the visa free movement regime. We have established a working relation through which we will overcome these problems.
We have talked about the upcoming NATO Summit. Georgia is invited to take part in the Summit, in which important issues will be discussed and resolved. These important topics include the Black Sea security, Georgia's NATO integration and acknowledgement of Georgia's role, which we have received many times from NATO.
At all these meetings we have discussed the tragic death of our citizen, Archil Tatunashvili, problems related to transportation of his body and detention of our citizens who are not allowed to leave the occupied Tskhinvali region. This was a sad context in which we have discussed the future steps to be taken by Georgia,” President Margvelashvili said.
