President Zourabichvili: We Need All Our Partners to Convince and Remind Russia that Georgia’s European Integration Path is Irreversible

The President of Georgia and the President of Latvia answered the questions of Georgian and foreign media following their one-on-one and enhanced format meetings.
The President of Georgia expressed her gratitude to the Latvian President for his firm support of Georgia, noting that our countries are linked with a very old friendship.
“Thank you, Mr. President for the support received on the path to join NATO and EU. Also, with the experience sharing that is so important for Georgia. Thirty years ago, in Georgia, we had the tragedy of April 9, which showed the determination of Georgia to regain its freedom and independence.
That’s where we started the fight that has led us to where we are today. Probably, thirty years ago, nobody would have predicted that Latvia would be part of the EU and NATO. And, the Georgia would be that close to the open doors of EU and NATO. That path that had been the trajectory of Georgia with a support of its friends and partners,” stated the President of Georgia.
President Salome Zourabichvili stated that Georgia celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Eastern Partnership this year, which reflects not only Georgia’s progress made with the Association Agreement, the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, and visa liberalization, but also the path and progress that still remains to be made to return within Europe and to enter NATO.
“In this Batumi Conference in July dedicated 10th anniversary of Partnership, Georgia will be at the time when it will be ready to express its ambitions, its proposals, its vision, of how to progress within the EU, despite the transition processes that are happening now in the European Union,” said President Zourabichvili at the press conference.
As for NATO integration, President Salome Zourabichvili stated that Georgia knows exactly how to reinforce links with NATO to push an open-door policy.
“That means reinforcing our cooperation on Black Sea, and on Black Sea Security; more cooperation on Cybersecurity, more Military Exercises, and what we have seen this year in terms of many high-level visits, all the high-level visits, that could be possibly,” stated the President of Georgia.
President Zourabichvili underlined that despite and while Georgia’s two territories are occupied, despite and while Russia continues its policy of aggression and of provocations on the occupying line, Georgia will not change its course to join the EU and NATO.
“We need all our partners to convince Russia, to remind Russia that Georgia’s European Integration Path is something that will not deter,” said President Zourabichvili.
