The President of Georgia Hosts the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China

President Salome Zourabichvili met with the State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi, who is paying an official visit to Georgia.
 
The President of Georgia talked about the recent development in our region and relations between Georgia and other countries within the region. In his turn, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China touched upon issues regarding China’s international challenges as well as its relations with the US and Russia.
 Georgia’s geopolitical role was underlined, noting that China is our partner and highly values Georgia’s role as a linking hub between Asia and Europe. The discussion was also focused on infrastructural projects as well as the country’s investment environment.
The sides also discussed Georgia’s occupied regions and Russia’s aggressive politics. The President of Georgia emphasized that during all negotiations, including bilateral and multilateral formats, Georgia’s partners should call on Russia to fulfill undertaken commitments towards Georgia. They should also use all levels of negotiations to discuss Georgia's occupied territories at a high political level. Further, our partners should constantly remind Russia that Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration process is irreversible.
The discussion was also focused on wide-ranging issues of bilateral cooperation, including development of trade-economic partnership. President Salome Zourabichvili expressed her interest to participate in the format of Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries as an observer in the China-CEEC mechanism, noting that participation in the format will once again underscore Georgia’s European aspirations.
Significant attention was also paid to enhance cooperation within the framework of the “Belt and Road Initiative.” The President of Georgia invited The President of the People’s Republic of China to pay a visit to Georgia.
