President Margvelashvili Addresses Parliament and Council of Justice

The President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili has called on the Parliament to announce moratorium on adopting Girgvliani Amendments and lifetime appointment of judges in the Council of Justice.
"First of all, I would like to call on the Parliament of Georgia to adopt Gvirgvliani Amendments that I fully support. I have been waiting for active discussion on Gvirgvliani Amendments for the past month. These Amendments involve recovery of the judiciary by releasing the people from the system who are suspected of many wrongdoings.
We should not forget this initiative and it should come into force in the nearest future. Georgian society cannot forget this initiative once again.
And secondly, I would like to call on the Council of Justice to announce moratorium on lifetime appointment of judges before Girgvliani Amendments are adopted.
I am not saying that we will actually solve the problem by considering these two suggestions, but we will impede dramatic processes from happening.
I have been making statements on the need to strengthen and refresh the Georgian judiciary system for the past three years.
Today, I would like to assure you that suggested plan will at least partially reduce the existing difficulties in the judiciary system," President Margvelashvili said.
