President Margvelashvili Awards Fighters of War in Abkhazia

The President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili has posthumously awarded Vakhtang Gorgasali I, II, and III rank Orders to fighters of the War in Abkhazia. They have been awarded for courage, heroism and devotion shown in fight for protecting the unity of Georgia.
The award ceremony held at the Veterans Department has also been attended by family members of the fighters. President Margvelashvili has once again underscored the merit and dedication that Georgian soldiers have revealed in fight for independence of the homeland.
"After so many years I would like to thank the people who have sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of our homeland. The initial period of Georgia's independence was extremely difficult; we had to protect our homeland's territorial integrity and sovereignty from the very first days of independence. Our state was not ready for this challenge; but our nation was ready and those people who had a patriotic spirit of defending own homeland.
They have been supported neither by state institutions nor other systems; however, the most powerful emotion that united them was love of own country," President Margvelashvili said.
As he further noted, these fighters have set an example for new generations and Georgian Armed Forces that have become more powerful and advanced.
"I would like next Georgian generations to be brought up following the example of these fighters, as such love of homeland and nation unites us and brings lots of victories,” President Margvelashvili said.
The President has thanked family members of the awarded fighters and described their heroism as the strength of current Georgia.
