​President Salome Zourabichvili Awards Outstanding Para-Athletes of the Year

Salome Zourabichvili, President of Georgia along with the Prime Minister, Mayor of Tbilisi and representatives of the Government has attended the awards ceremony of the distinguished athletes of 2018, nominated by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.
President Zourabichvili has awarded Irma Khetsuriani, the best female para-athlete of 2018, five-time World Cup winner and European Championship medalist in wheelchair fencing and Zviad Gogotchuri, the best male para-athlete of 2018, the world champion, two-time World Cup winner in para-judo.
At the ceremony, President Zourabichvili has addressed the audience and thanked the sportsmen on behalf of the Georgian people and herself for the selfless work and achievements that inspire each and every citizen of Georgia.
In her address, President Zourabichvili has wished further success to the athletes in the upcoming tournaments and expressed hope that in 2019, Georgian flag will be once again elevated to celebrate their victories.
"It is crucial for our state that the world recognizes the strength of the Georgian state through the success of the Georgian athletes. You are the biggest hope for this state. Culture and sports, along with other elements lay a foundation for the state; therefore, you are extremely precious for our state.
I would like to thank everyone, wish you a happy new year and further success not only in 2019, but also in the Olympic year of 2020,” President Zourabichvili said.
The awards ceremony, held at Rustaveli Theater was opened by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports. The event was attended by the heads of Olympic Committee and sports federations, Olympic and World Champions, veterans and acting athletes, and specially invited guests.
