President Zourabichvili Discusses Asylum Seekers and Circular Migration Issues with Dimitris Avramopoulos

As part of her first working visit to Brussels, President Salome Zourabichvili has held a meeting with Dimitris Avramopoulos, European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship. The meeting focused on visa-free regime issues.
President Zourabichvili and Dimitris Avramopoulos have underlined the importance of political and practical benefits of the visa-free regime with Europe.
The talk also touched upon the problems related to groundless asylum seekers in the EU countries.
As Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Georgia pointed out following the meeting, the European party has approved and positively assessed Georgia’s efforts in carrying out information campaign, implementing legislative amendments, and furthering bilateral cooperation.
The Georgian party has reaffirmed that Georgia will continue to work in this direction and is ready to seek new opportunities with Brussels and the EU member states to eventually eliminate this problem.
Circular migration issues – temporary labor migration has also been discussed at the meeting.
The Commissioner has expressed willingness to put further efforts to encourage the relevant countries to make similar agreements with Georgia.
