President Margvelashvili Meets Participants of Frankfurt Book Fair

Book fair has been held at the Presidential Palace featuring the books that Georgia, guest of honor in 2018, will present at Frankfurt Book Fair.
Giorgi Margvelashvili, President of Georgia has thanked Georgian writers who “shape the Georgian culture and trigger the spiritual development of our nation”.
"Today we have attempted to create the context for the upcoming Frankfurt Book Fair.
The fair is a significant event in terms of presenting our homeland to the world and also from the political point of view. I see the political context in it. Presentation of the uniqueness of our culture makes us proud and at the same time creates the political basis for Georgia’s protection and development.
Through our participation, we will show the world that we are a literate nation that has its own unique alphabet and a wide variety of writings. We will demonstrate that despite numerous challenges this culture has never been destroyed. We create the basis for the future in present.
Through our participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair as the guest of honor, we will demonstrate that a Georgian is not an invader, aggressor, criminal, but represents a literate nation and is a heroic defender of own identity. Our survival mainly depends on this," Giorgi Margvelashvili said.
President Margvelashvili has thanked those state agencies that have contributed to the preparation for the Fair, highlighting the role of the National Book Center of Georgia in this process. He has awarded Medea Metreveli, Director of the National Book Center of Georgia for her personal contribution to globally promoting Georgian literature.
