EU and Georgia Advance Bilateral Cooperation – Agreement Between President Margvelashvili and Jean-Claude Juncker Has Been Reached

The President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili and the President of the European Commission, Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker have agreed on advancing the EU-Georgia bilateral relations and establishing a new format for cooperation that involves transition to the highest level of sectoral cooperation.
As highlighted, the European Commission and the Georgian Government share active cooperation in various areas. Dynamic progress of the last year has also been underscored.
Following the face-to-face meeting with President Margvelashvili, Mr. Juncker met with the Georgian delegation.
At the meeting, special emphasis was put on the recent aggressive actions of the occupation regime. The parties have shown concern over the tragic death of a Georgian citizen in the occupied Tskhinvali and the detention of two others.
Conversation has touched upon the achievements of Georgia, as the frontrunner in the Eastern Partnership, the agenda of bilateral cooperation and the necessity of furthering institutional and democratic reforms and enhancing sectoral cooperation.
The parties have also discussed the visa liberalization process. According to President Margvelashvili, Georgian Government is ready to take all the necessary steps, in cooperation with the EU partners, to prevent complications in the process of visa-free travel.
At the end, President Margvelashvili has invited Mr. Juncker to Georgia to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the First Georgian Republic on May 26.
