President Margvelashvili Invites President of Iceland to Georgia to Celebrate 100th Anniversary of Georgia’s Independence

The President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili has invited the President of Iceland, H.E. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson to attend the celebration marking the 100th anniversary of Georgia’s independence.
The meeting has been held as part of President Margvelashvili’s working visit to Vilnius. The two presidents have expressed willingness to further deepen Georgia-Iceland bilateral relations based on friendship and shared values. They have also discussed the prospects of intensifying political, economic and business cooperation.
Georgia’s occupied territories and the country’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations have been the major topics raised at the meeting. As reaffirmed, Iceland firmly supports Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
President Margvelashvili has briefed his counterpart on the current environment and problems in the occupied territories of Georgia, namely the so-called borderization and recurrent cases of human rights violation.
As President Margvelashvili has noted, implementation of free trade agreement with the European Union opens up new prospects for strengthening trade and economic relations.
The meeting has also been attended by the Head of Administration of President Margvelashvili, Mr. Giorgi Abashishvili, Secretary of National Security Council, Mr. Davit Rakviashvili, Advisor to President Margvelashvili for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tengiz Pkhaladze and Ambassador of Georgia to Lithuania, Ms. Khatuna Salukvadze.
