“I was honored to receive Madame President of Georgia for the first time here, at UNHCR. We have a long-standing cooperation with Georgia in many different ways.
We spoke about Refugees, arriving in Georgia; seeking asylum. Our availability to continue to work with Georgia; in strengthening the asylum system of Georgia.
We spoke about, of course, the situation of Internally Displaced Persons, I praised Georgia’s housing program and a program to support IDPs. Of course, the solution to that problem is a political solution. We are Humanitarian organization, and we stand ready to provide help to people anytime.
And then, finally we spoke about the international role that Georgia can also play, we just have a compact on Refugees, endorsed by the United Nations. We will have a global Refugee Forum, at ministerial level, at the end of the year, in Geneva. And, I encourage Georgia to continue to play also a role in the international arena.” – was stated by Filippo Grandi.
