President Zourabichvili Tours Lake Paliastomi

President Salome Zourabichvili toured the Lake Paliastomi in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region on 15 June as part of her regional visit to inaugurate the reopening of domestic tourism in Georgia. Lake Paliastomi is the second-largest lake in Georgia, part of the Kolkheti National Park, and an important fishing and bird observation site.

The Kolkheti National Park was established in 1999 for the protection of ancient and unique Colchian forests and wetlands and has gained international significance since Georgia’s accession to the Ramsar International Convention. In February 2019, the Colchian Forests and Wetlands were nominated to be included on the UNESCO Natural World Heritage List, an issue still under consideration.
