President Zourabichvili and Public Defender Discuss Human Rights Situation in Georgia

President Salome Zourabichvili held a meeting with Public Defender Nino Lomjaria to discuss the human rights situation in Georgia.

The meeting, held at the Presidential Palace focused on the recurrent cases of human rights violation in the occupied territories of Georgia. As noted, human rights are frequently violated in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region where people live in an unstable environment. Local population, living in the territory separated from Georgia by artificial barriers is also deprived of the freedom of movement.

President Zourabichvili asked Nino Lomjaria about the investigation of the disappearance of three ethnic Ossetian teenagers living in the occupied Tskhinvali in October 2008. Families of the teenagers addressed the President on this case in February this year.

Conversation also touched upon the pardon process and the Public Defender’s involvement in this process.
