President Rivlin: ‘Ties between Georgian and Jewish Peoople have been True and Sincere Friendship for Centuries’

Presidents Salome Zourabichvili and Reuven Rivlin of the State of Israel discussed during their bilateral meeting in Jerusalem the special, sincere, and friendly relations between Georgia and Israel.

President Rivlin emphasized that the sincere and true friendship between the Georgian and Jewish people has been proven for centuries.

During the meeting, the leaders underscored that Georgia and Israel are moving to a new phase in their bilateral relations, a phase where Georgia is becoming more popualar for the people of Israel and with a foundation of the ancient friendship between the Georgian and Jewish people.

It was also outlined that during the horrific wave of antisemitism that hit Europe and the world, Georgia remained an island of freedom for the Jewish people. During World War II, Georgia became a shelter for many Jews, who never experienced any type of persecution in or exile from Georgia.

“This kind of cordial, sincere, and friendly relations should develop into a deeper partnership,” said Lasha Zhvania, Ambassador of Georgia to the State of Israel.
