President Zourabichvili: “By Hosting EuroBasket 2021, Europe Enters in Georgia and Georgia Enters in Europe”

President Salome Zourabichvili stated that the decision made in Munich to host the EuroBasket 2021 competition in Georgia, along with the Czech Republic, Germany, and Italy is significant.
“By this decision, Europe enters in Georgia, and vice versa.
“Such a huge step and victory deserves congratulations. I was in Munich during the decision-making process and I am utterly proud. This achievement was won thanks to Georgian basketball players, the Georgian Basketball Federation and all the people who had been involved in the process for years.
“I took great responsibility in the fulfillment of the obligations undertaken by the Georgian side. Mr. Prime Minister, Mr. Minister and Mr. Mayor of the Capital, we are all responsible to launch and see through the end the construction of the right infrastructure on time in order to hold the games.
“The infrastructure project I have seen is wonderful, not only for our sportsmen and women but also for our citizens, especially as it will make sport more accessible for our society. I would also like to congratulate you on the creation of a European-level sport infrastructure project. Sport is very important for the health of society. I seize this opportunity and would like to congratulate Nikoloz Basilashvili on his victory. Your story, and his example, will reassure the Georgian youth that there is no happy life without sport,” stated the President.
Also in attendance of the event were: Mamuka Bakhtadze, the Prime Minister, Mikheil Batiashvili, the Minister of the Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi, Basketball Federation executives and members of the National Basketball Team.
A 3x3 basketball tournament for children was also held as part of the event.
