President Zourabichvili: “Our Path to NATO is a Path toward Achieving Global Peace, a Path for Strengthening Regional Stability”

“Our path to NATO is a path toward achieving global peace, a path to strengthen regional stability,” stated President Zourabichvili during the closing ceremony of the multinational military training Agile Spirit 2019, at the Orpolo Military Polygon.

President Zourabichvili noted during her speech that Georgian fighters have had agile spirits as part of their characters for centuries and that, with the successful completion of this year’s exercises, Georgia is closer to its goal of enhancing interoperability among the countries involved in the multinational training.

“The main message of the training, ”Strength through Partnership”, is entirely in accordance with our joint efforts. Today, we are reiterating our commitment to our chosen path. Our path to NATO is a path toward achieving global peace, toward strengthening regional stability, toward security. On this path, our international partners play a crucial role,” said President Zourabichvili.

The President stated that Georgia once again reiterates its pledge to make a solid contribution in the creation and maintenance of stability and of a safe environment in the region. “Georgia is increasingly becoming a trustworthy and reliable partner thanks to its steps, its military and political reforms, and its economic resilience. We are guided by NATO standards in the issues of defense and armed equipment: 2% of our GDP goes to our defense, while nearly 20% of our defense budget is spent on armed equipment. We have admirable soldiers who are assuring peace via peacekeeping missions both here and outside of our borders and who have earned the great respect and credibility of our partners. “This is why, let me highlight that the North Atlantic Council is set to visit Georgia in a few months, which is a firm sign of political support and a clear message from the Alliance,” stated President Zourabichvili.

According to the President, each step taken in the reinforcement of Georgia’s defense capability is based on the country’s peaceful policy. “Georgia, as an independent and democratic state, is oriented toward advancing peace, toward the peaceful resolution of the conflicts, and toward national development. We will not divert ourselves from this course. Our path is a way that is equally important to Georgia as well as to its international partners, as peace, stability, and a secured environment are essential not only for a single country, but for the whole world. For us, the Georgian people, it is a great honor and responsibility that we have the chance to contribute to this effort,” said the President.
