President Zourabichvili: Future Latvia-Georgia Relations are our Joint European Future

On behalf of the President of Latvia, an official dinner was held in honor of President Salome Zourabichvili, which she attended with Georgian delegation officials.
The Presidents of Georgia and Latvia toasted and wished the Georgian and Latvian peoples peace and prosperity.
“On May 4, Latvia celebrated its day of restoring its independence. It is a special occasion for you and I am cordially joining your happiness.
“You are also calling this occasion the country’s rebirth day. Such an evaluation is well-understood by the Georgian people as gaining our independence is one of the biggest achievements of our nation.
“The Soviet regime is a joint tragic history for the Georgian and Latvian nations. The fighting to escape the totalitarian regime has firmly linked our people.
“We have experienced fighting and have valued even more our friendship. Your genuine, powerful support during the tragic events of April 9 is unforgettable”, said the President of Georgia.
President Zourabichvili emphasized that the Georgian and Latvian peoples also are joined by their special attitude towards cultural roots and folklore.
“Your national celebrations are filled with traditional Latvian dances and songs, which UNESCO has preserved on its list of the world’s intangible cultural heritage. Georgian polyphonic music is also preserved in this list,” said the President of Georgia.
President Zourabichvili underlined that today, while the Georgian people is purposefully pursuing its path to Europe, Latvia, as a member of the EU, is a reliable partner for us.
“Sharing your experience is even more valuable for us to properly pass this way.
I am confident that Georgia will become a full-fledged member of the European family and on this path, the huge Latvian contribution will be welcome. Future relations between Latvia and Georgia are our joint European future,” said the President of Georgia.
As the President of Latvia underlined, it is crucial to cooperate in the area of defense and security. Today’s Georgia is an important partner for NATO and puts its own contribution in collective defense. Latvia will further support Georgia on the path of transatlantic cooperation and the European Union.
