President Zourabichvili: I am Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of a Country that will Cope All Possible Challenges

The President of Georgia and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces congratulated the Georgian Defense Forces on their 28th anniversary and addressed gathered members of the military at the Fourth Mechanized Brigade in Vaziani.
“Honorable society, I would like to greet you. Let me welcome our dear guests.
“I would like to congratulate the Georgian Defense Forces! First of all, let me congratulate the Rankers, Officers, and the Generals – each and every soldier! Allow me to congratulate the whole staff of the Ministry of Defense, as well as our veterans! I would like to congratulate all of Georgia! Happy Easter!
“I am very proud that I knew General Kvinitadze in my early childhood. Today, I am proud of standing together with you while our country’s Defense Forces celebrate their 28th anniversary since their creation. Since their formation, the Defense Forces have been the base of Georgia’s independence.
“Our soldiers are the main defenders of Georgia’s statehood. You are the backbone of this country! The countless examples of our soldier’s devotion and professionalism affirmed that such dignity is most important for us.
“It has always been this way, will continue to be this way, and will not be threatened! We, the Georgian people, all know the price of freedom and peace. We know that for reinforcing the country’s independence and stability, international security, global peace, and peace within our borders are all significantly important. Over the years, Georgia has well responded to those challenges. Our soldiers participating in international peacekeeping missions have gained a special respect from our western partners.
“I was proud during my visit in Afghanistan when I listened to the words of the coalition command about the great professionalism of Georgian solders. I have heard the same at the NATO headquarters in Brussels. Being in a country’s service is a huge responsibility and burden that requires self-sacrifice.  I want to pay my respect to the memories of the heroes that sacrificed themselves for our country’s independence and for worldwide peace. Let me welcome their family with great respect. It is difficult for us to overcome this hardship, but it binds us to get stronger.
“Significant steps are being taken to develop Georgia’s Defense Forces. I would like to express my gratitude to all our partners, to everyone who stands beside us and helps on this path. US support is exceptional that significantly contributed the professional growth of our Defense Forces and raised its quality.
“It is noteworthy that we are trusted partners in strategic cooperation. The recently conducted “NATO-Georgia Exercise” that was led by Georgia reaffirmed the level of confidence growth toward us.
“This joint effort serves for only one ultimate goal: securing the country’s independence, peace, regional stability, and pursuing the path that we have already designated. Nothing will hinder our pursuit of this road! I am convinced that our consistent steps will further strengthen Georgia’s peaceful policy in the conflicts.
“I am convinced that with our Georgian soldiers’ professionalism, state awareness, and successful defense reforms, Georgia will become a full-fledged member of the Euro-Atlantic space. I understand and believe that I am Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of a country which will deal with all possible challenges! This is your achievement and I hope for your support! Once again, I would like to congratulate you all on today’s occasion and express my gratitude,” said the President of Georgia.
President Salome Zourabichvili laid a wreath on the memorial of heroes who have fallen in the fight for Georgia’s territorial integrity and paid her respect to the soldiers deceased during the conflicts. The Prime Minister, the Chairman of the Parliament, the Minister of Defense, the Chief of the Defense Forces, and the family members of the heroes deceased for the territorial integrity of Georgia were in attendance with the President at the solemn event dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the Georgian Defense Forces.
