President Zourabichvili: “Abastumani Will Become a Wellness and Rehabilitation Touristic Center Very Soon”

President Salome Zourabichvili visited Abastumani and met with local and regional government officials of Samtskhe–Javakheti. The local authorities briefed her on the current developments and major infrastructure projects currently underway in Samtskhe–Javakheti.
President Zourabichvili expressed her interest on the rehabilitation of monuments listed as part of Georgia’s cultural heritage, as well as the construction of retraining centres, noting that retraining local staff is important for regional development.
President Zourabichvili was also briefed about the existing challenges facing Samtskhe–Javakheti, stating that her visits in different regions are meant to learn about the situation on the ground and to meet with the local population.
“I want to learn about what problems still remain and what is being developed. Here, it is clear that serious infrastructure development is underway. This region will be a wellness and rehabilitation centre very soon,” stated President Zourabichvili.
President Zourabichvili explored a new rehabilitation centre, up to modern standards, built with the support of the Cartu Group and the Ministry of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health, and Social Protection, and intended to service patients with lungs diseases.
“It is a very modern rehabilitation centre. I consider that balneotherapy and other medical services carry a great potential in our country,” said President Zourabichvili.
As the Director of the Center stated, such a high quality rehabilitation service is a new trend in Georgian medicine. The modern-equipped center is designed for 100 patients at a time.
