President Zourabichvili Awards Best Sportspersons of 2019

President Salome Zourabichvili attended the summarizing ceremony of the 2019 sports events, organized by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Georgia.

The President awarded the best sportsmen of 2019, including Lasha Talakhadze (Weightlifting), Lukhum Chkhvimiani (Judo), Geno Petriashvili (Freestyle Wrestling), Beka Lomtadze (Freestyle Wrestling), Nugzar Tsurtsumia (Greco-Roman Wrestling), and Lasha Gobadze (Greco-Roman Wrestling).

President Zourabichvili delivered a speech to the audience and thanked the sportsmen and women for their successful achievements.

“Our sportsmen and women managed to make Georgia prominent in faraway countries as one of the most successful countries in sports. Besides the recognition of the country, the Georgian flag has been raised outside of our country several times, which makes our population extremely proud. Taking into consideration the current situation in our country, the fact that 20% of our territory is occupied, this success gives us grounds for hope and courage in the future and I would like to once again thank you all for that. Your contribution is priceless both in and out of the country.

“You are the best role model for our youth on how to grow up as healthy, successful and a winner.
“Today’s nominees represent clear evidence of what can be achieved if you put all your efforts and energy into your job.
“I wish our country to be as successful in all other fields as sports.
“A healthy lifestyle is essential as a person becomes stronger and resistant to everything.
“Our country needs us to be unified, active, healthy, successful and victory-oriented,” stated President Salome Zourabichvili.

At the annual award ceremony held at the State Ceremonies Palace, the best sportsmen and women were revealed through 11 nominations and 14 special prizes.
