President opens MEDEF Business Leaders Forum

President Salome Zourabichvili delivered a speech to French entrepreneurs and guests and urged them to support Georgia’s full Europeanisation.

More than 700 representatives of the French business sector, including those who are already working on the Georgian market, were among the forum attendees.
During the speech in front of MEDEF’s audience, President Zourabichvili highlighted Georgia’s readiness to become closer to Europe in every field. She emphasized that the Georgian people are ready for “more Europe” in the economic sector, as well as in the educational, sports and cultural fields.

“Georgia represents today a paradox as it represents the desire to join the European Union more than ever before,” stated the President. “When I am told that the EU is a dream, I respond by saying that Europe’s history is full of dreams that came true: the reconciliation between France and Germany, the German reunification, the European enlargement to the East. Europe is nothing if she doesn’t dream,” noted President Zourabichvili. President Zourabichvili stated that Georgia has high hopes for the European ambitions French President Emmanuel Macron is currently developing. “I told President Macron that we expected a lot from his new initiatives and that Georgia wants to see the project of a European Renaissance succeed,” singled out the President.

Nicolas Sarkozy, former President of France, and Emmanuel Macron, incumbent President, both delivered speeches to the MEDEF Summer University in past years. Following the President, the Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) of Ireland Simon Coveney addressed the attendees and agreed with President Zourabichvili that Georgia’s actual home is in the European Union. “We, as a small country like you, on the other side of this home, will assist you at the full extent with regard to our capability,” noted Mr. Coveney.
